Plans for 2009

We’ve been busy planning for the 2009 veggie season.  Here are a few highlights:

1.  In an effort to maximize our efficiency and reduce labor requirements, we decided to mechanize as much as possible.  At our tiny scale (just over 1/4 acre), this means using a tractor to prepare the fields.  So we bought a new (to us) Kubota compact tractor.  With the implements that Tom has graciously offered to let us borrow, we’ll be able to plow and rototill much more quickly and with less strain on the back!

2.  Sand filter for drip irrigation.

3.  Forego expansion in order to focus on quality.

4.  Education.  Building Farmers program in December.  Mentors for 2009: John Martin and Kayann Short of Stonebridge Farm in Lyons.
