What is a CSA share?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It is a way for consumers and farmers to support one another. By committing to a season’s worth of fresh, tasty and nutritious veggies at the beginning of the year, you invest in the health of your family, community, and local agriculture.
Your share is a portion of the harvest and consists of a variety of vegetables, which you pick up weekly at the farm. Commit to diverting $25 a week from the grocery store to a local farm and enjoy a summer of seasonal, healthy eating.
The CSA is sold out for 2010. Feel free to contact us directly by email (csa@thefamilytablefarm.com) or by phone (720.352.5326) if you have questions.
What does it cost?
$450 for a weekly share. You will receive a selection of seasonal veggies every week for 18 weeks starting in early June and continuing through early October.
$250 for an every-other-week share. Every two weeks during our 18 week season you will receive the same veggies that are in the full share that week. If you are concerned about getting more vegetables than you can use, or tend to be away on vacation for part of the summer, this might be the option for you.
What will I get?
We will select a variety of Certified Naturally Grown veggies, grown in-season without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. We try hard to give you the right amount of vegetables, so none go to waste and you get a good value. Varieties and quantities will be based on actual production. While production can be affected by bad weather and other uncontrollable events, the following lists will give you some idea of what we’re planning:
| June 16 4-5 beets Bag of salad mix 10-12 green onions 8 oz snap peas 10-12 radishes 8 oz spinach 10-12 salad turnips |
July 14 4-5 beets 1 lb broccoli 1 head cabbage Bag of salad mix 10-12 green onions 10-12 salad turnips 1 lb swiss chard |
August 18 1 lb green/yellow beans 4-5 beets 10-12 carrots 1 head lettuce 1 head garlic 2-3 onions 4 bell peppers 4 summer squash/zucchini |
September 15 10-12 carrots 4 cucumbers Bag of salad mix 4 bell peppers 2 lbs potatoes 8 oz spinach 4 heirloom tomatoes 2-3 winter squash |
Along with your vegetables, you’ll also receive our newsletter containing information about the farm and recipe suggestions to help you make the most of your share.
Additionally, we’ll have a small pumpkin patch dedicated to CSA members. You’ll also be invited to join us for an end-of-season harvest party held in conjunction with Lone Hawk Farm. It will be a night of great food and music!
How do I sign up?
Because we have a limited number of shares available, please check with us before signing up. Feel free to contact us directly by email (csa@thefamilytablefarm.com) or by phone (720.352.5326).
How and when do I get my veggies?
You pick them up at the farm every Wednesday night, any time between 4 and 7 pm. The farm is located about 6 miles west of Longmont, at 10790 N. 49th Street, Longmont, CO 80503. We lease our land from Lone Hawk Farm. We are about 15 minutes from downtown Longmont and 30 minutes from downtown Boulder. Here’s a map:

We may be able to arrange a special drop-off in your neighborhood if you can sign up at least 5 of your neighbors. Give us a call (720.352.5326) or email us at csa@thefamilytablefarm.com for the details.
What if I am on vacation, out of town, or otherwise unable to pick up my veggies one week?
You can arrange for a friend to pick them up for you. Unfortunately we can’t hold shares for you – we just don’t have that much storage space!
Refund?
One of the fundamental concepts of CSA is that members share in the risk of farming. It’s the financial commitment of the members that makes it possible for the farmer to stay in business, despite the many factors that can affect the harvest. Given this, we can not offer full or partial refunds.
Is there a work requirement?
While you are welcome to volunteer your time, you are not required to work at the farm as a member of the CSA.
Can I work instead of paying money?
While some CSA farms offer work or “barter” shares, we do not. If you’re looking for the experience of working in the garden alongside your farmers, consider arranging to volunteer.
